Khaw Pote

This dish is a twist on a Shan-specific traditional Myanmar snack, consisting of fried sticky rice appetizer accompanied by Rooted Fare's Black Sesame dip. There is another type of hkaw pote from Kachin tradition, which has sweet flavor and prepared by baking instead of frying.

Time

Ingredients

1.5 cup black rice (raw)

1/2 cup white rice (raw)

1/2 cup sesame seeds

2 cups water

Salt

1/3 cup sesame oil

Rooted Fare Black Sesame Butter

Instructions

1. Preparing Rice

Put uncooked white and black rice in a bowl. After rinsing, leave the rice to soak in water for the whole night.

2. Preparing Flavor

Combine 1/3 cup sesame oil, salt, and sesame seeds in a food processor.

3. Cooling Down

After draining the water, place the rice and two cups of water into a rice cooker. Activate the rice cooker. After cooking, allow the rice to cool. Gradually add the cooked rice to the food processor in tiny batches, blending until a uniform texture is achieved. Give the blended sticky rice a good swirl with a spatula. Allow it to cool or refrigerate.

4. FryAndServe

Remove from the refrigerator and cut the dough into even pieces after a few hours. Pan-fry in sesame oil until crispy. Enjoy it with the Black Sesame Butter from Rooted Fare!
